Medstar’s mission is to provide the communities we serve with the highest quality pre-hospital care, with expertise in medical treatment and transportation, supplemented by state-of-the-art vehicles and equipment, knowledgeable and responsible staffing, comprehensive management systems and cost-effective emergency and non-emergency ambulance services.

A Brief History

James R Sundie bought Foley Ambulance Service in the 1970’s. He started with only one ambulance. Medstar EMS has grown and expanded over the years and now serves all of Baldwin County. We have a fleet of 15 ambulances and support vehicles. With a staff of approximately 95 employees, Medstar now answers an average of 14,000 calls per year. The growth and success of this company continues to flourish. Today, Medstar EMS is one of the most respected private providers of emergency medical services in Alabama.

With the birth of this company, a new way of thinking about emergency services was also initiated. As a private company, Medstar is not bound by tradition. Rather than relying on traditional solutions, finding ways to deliver the highest quality, most cost-effective health and safety solutions, to all the communities and people served became the ethic of the company. This value is still very much alive today!

Medstar has continued to refine and develop its ambulance business. In 1995, Medstar sold to a national company. Rural/Metro. At that time, Medstar was serving Central and South Baldwin County and the Eastern Shore. Mr. Sundie bought the ambulance company back in 2000 and expanded the company to include North Baldwin County in 2001. Medstar is currently the sole provider of ambulance services in all of Baldwin County.
