A Brief History
James R Sundie bought Foley Ambulance Service
in the 1970’s.
He began his service with only one ambulance and has
expanded over the years and now serves the majority of Baldwin
County. We have a fleet of 17 ambulances, 2 rapid response vehicles,
and 2 support vehicles. With a staff of approximately 150 employees,
Medstar
now responds to
an
average
of 15,000 calls per year. The growth and success of this company
continues to flourish. Today, Medstar EMS is one of the most
respected private providers of emergency medical services in
Alabama.
With the birth of this company a new way of thinking
about emergency services emerged. As a private
company, Medstar is not bound by tradition. Rather than relying
on traditional
solutions, finding ways to deliver the highest quality most
cost-effective healthcare to all the community became the number
one goal of the company. This value is still very much alive
today!
Over the years, Medstar
has continued to refine and develop it's ambulance service.
In 1995, Medstar sold to a national company, Rural/Metro. At
that time, Medstar was serving Central and Southern Baldwin County
and the Eastern Shore. In order to provide a more personal service,
it was Mr. Sundie's decision to take the company back over
2000.
