Medstar founder and a driving force in Alabama EMS, Ricky Sundie, Passed away on March 24, 2005. Ricky leaves behind a legacy that will long be remembered for many years to come.

Ricky was very proud of all his employees and succeeded in having one of the best ambulance services in the State of Alabama and the Gulf Coast. He strived to put all of his employees through Paramedic school to further themselves and their careers. An EMS  scholarship fund has been set up in his name for anyone that would like to continue his  legacy of producing the state’s best paramedics. You can contribute, here’s how:

A Hero Has Fallen...By Carol Blair

Some years ago there was a young man

Who pondered and considered his life’s plan.

He love helping people in their our of need

And could not stand to see folks in pain or bleed.

So as he grew older he searched the land

And purchased a company that would meet his plan.

Medstar Emergency Medical Services was born that day

To help folks in Baldwin County along life’s way.

They answer thousands of calls each year

And help relieve pain, stress, and great fear.

Why his army of heroes served us everyday

In a wonderful and loving sacrificial way.

The work was hard and the hours were long

But he remained true to his cause and strong.

He would risk everything to save your wife or child

In response to the 911 call you dialed.

Then on March 25th Ricky heard a song that only angels sing

And even felt the brush of an Angel’s wing.

Softly he heard the Lord whisper in his ear

Your lat run has been made and YOUR ambulance is here.

Now, my child, you have nothing to fear

For my transport has all the right gear.

My siren will be blowing while Angels stand at attention

To welcome you home when your name is mentioned.

It’s time, my son, for you to come home

And from Heaven’s portals you will now roam.

So in the twinkling of an eye

Ricky quietly let out a sigh.

From the gates of Heaven Medstar 8 is watching over you

Hoping to comfort your heart with this little due.

Watch carefully as you travel down the street

For sometimes you will find a penny lying at your feet.

This penny is to remind you that Ricky’s love is true

And that he will be watching over you.

Pennies from Heaven is what you may find

To help ease your pain and bring comfort to your mind.

So, if “by chance” a penny you may see

Pick it up and remember Ricky is calling to thee.
